J.R. Hildebrand to race in Atlantic Series at Road America |
09.20.2006 |
ELKHART LAKE, Wisc., Sept 15, 2006 - J.R. Hildebrand has signed with the Newman Wachs Racing (NWR) team to drive the #36 car during next week's Road America Champ Car Atlantic race. Hildebrand will be along side NWR's #34 Joe D'Agostino for the final race of the 2006 Champ Car Atlantic series. Hildebrand, a gifted young driver, has won a record 11 out of 12 races this year during the Cooper Tires Formula Ford Zetec Championship. While clinching the championship with three races to go, he has also set records for most consecutive wins (7), most pole positions and most laps led in a season.
Prior to 2006, J.R. won the prestigious Team USA Scholarship, competing in the Formula Palmer Audi Autumn Cup. He won Rookie of the Year twice; first while winning the SCCA Formula Russell Championship in 2004 and again in the Pacific F2000 Championship in 2005. In addition to being an accomplished racer, he is also a National Merit Scholar and has been accepted to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
J.R. plans to "do the double", running both the Atlantic race and the two Cooper Series races. NWR is looking forward to seeing J.R. Hildebrand close out the season strongly at Road America.
