J.R. Hildebrand, from Sausalito, California, raced to a dominant win at Kansas Speedway this weekend and took control of the Firestone Indy Lights Series points lead. It was only the second oval race of Hildebrand's career, just the fourth race of the season, and both Hildebrand's and his RLR/Andersen Racing team's first Indy Lights Series victory. Together they have improved their finishing position with every race, and in doing so have secured the points lead heading into a month-long break before racing at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway just two days before the Indy 500.

Hildebrand lapped the circuit in just 47.6683 seconds at an average speed of 188.805mph, trailing Rafael Matos by less than one one-hundredth of a second. Hildebrand's teammate, Andrew Prendeville, was third quickest as the three of them were more than a tenth of a second clear of the rest of the field.

J.R. Hildebrand, of Sausalito, California, has had his work cut out for him as a rookie in the recently renamed Firestone Indy Lights Series, but with three strong drives so far, he has helped his RLR/Andersen Racing team get off to a strong start. Signing on just days before the first race, Hildebrand was thrown in the deep end right away as he had to adapt to a new car, schedule, and series very quickly. Driving from last on the grid into the top 10 in his oval debut at Homestead, and finishing fifth and second on the streets of St. Petersburg have put Hildebrand squarely in the title fight as he sits fourth just six points out of second.

After missing qualifying and starting last (23rd) due to a fuel system mishap, J.R. raced through the field to finish tenth in Saturday's Miami 100 at Homestead. More details soon!

The Indy Racing League and Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire have announced an agreement which sees the Firestone brand assume title sponsorship of the Indy Racing League's official development series and reestablish the series name as Firestone Indy Lights. Before a breif sabbatical, then becoming the Infiniti Pro Series, then Indy Pro Series, the Firestone Indy Lights Series was the pinnacle of development series in North America. Many past and current Indycar drivers and champions made their way to the ranks of CART and the IRL through the series, and drivers will now be able to follow that same path to greatness.

Genoa Racing, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, teamed up with J.R. Hildebrand, Larry Connor and Imran Hussein for an impressive test at the Sebring International Raceway Short Course on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. It was the first of three official pre-season tests for the Cooper Tires Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Series Powered by Mazda, attracting no fewer than 25 drivers to the Central Florida road circuit. The Genoa team showed extremely well against the competition, ending up second quickest in the afternoon of the second day and fourth quickest overall for the two-day test with Hildebrand as the team's lead driver.

As we're all heading into the holiday season, I thought I would send out a quick update about what I've been up to and what plans I have moving forward. I'm still in the process of sorting things out for next year, but with some good options out there, I'm very optoimistic about the upcoming season!

Bobby Wilson, who had spun in turn 11 on lap 3, pulled back on the track directly in front of J.R., setting a new standard for dumbest move of the race. With nowhere to go, J.R. sustained front wing and suspension damage, and retired after a few more laps.
